Astris Law is based in Brisbane and advises businesses across Australia. Much of what we do — corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, intellectual property — involves Commonwealth legislation that applies nationally. There is no requirement for your lawyer to be in the same city as your business.
We act for clients in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and regional Queensland. Court appearances, mediations and hearings in other jurisdictions are handled either in person or by arrangement with local agents where required.
Brisbane and South East Queensland
Brisbane is home base. Astris Law is located in the Brisbane metropolitan area and acts for directors, founders, SMEs and regulated businesses throughout the city and greater South East Queensland. Being based in South East Queensland means we are in close proximity to the Queensland Supreme Court, the Federal Court (Brisbane registry), the Fair Work Commission (Brisbane) and QCAT. We regularly appear in these jurisdictions on behalf of our clients in commercial disputes, employment matters, regulatory proceedings and disciplinary hearings.

Sydney and New South Wales
Astris Law acts for clients in Sydney and across New South Wales. Much of the work we do for NSW-based businesses involves Commonwealth legislation — the Corporations Act 2001, the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, the Privacy Act 1988 and the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 — which applies nationally regardless of where the lawyer is located. Federal Court proceedings can be filed in any registry.
For matters requiring a physical presence in New South Wales, we attend or arrange local representation as needed. The practical reality is that most corporate and commercial legal work is conducted remotely through video conferencing, electronic filing and digital execution of documents.
Melbourne and Victoria
Astris Law acts for clients in Melbourne and across Victoria. The same Commonwealth legislation that governs corporate transactions, consumer protection, privacy and anti-money laundering in Queensland applies identically in Victoria. There is no legal barrier to a Brisbane-based firm advising Victorian businesses on these matters.
Many commercial disputes, regulatory matters and corporate transactions are conducted remotely or through national court registries. Where a matter requires in-person attendance in Victoria, we make arrangements to attend or engage local agents as the situation requires.
Why Location Doesn't Matter for Most Commercial Legal Work
The majority of commercial legal work in Australia is governed by Commonwealth legislation that applies uniformly across all states and territories. The Corporations Act, the Competition and Consumer Act, the Fair Work Act, the Privacy Act and the AML/CTF Act do not change depending on which state your lawyer practises in. Federal Court proceedings can be filed in any registry and are increasingly conducted by video link. Corporate and commercial transactions are document-based and location-independent.
Video conferencing, electronic filing and digital execution have removed the geographic barriers that once made it impractical to instruct a lawyer in another city. Clients in Sydney and Melbourne receive the same responsiveness and attention as clients in Brisbane.
There is also a distinct advantage to working with a boutique firm nationally. At a large firm, interstate clients are often delegated to junior associates or passed between offices. At Astris Law, every client works directly with the principal lawyer regardless of where they are located. You get consistent, senior-level advice without the layers of a large firm structure.
